 Cleaning the Optics Module PrismOverview

This procedure explains how to clean the optics module prism on the J457 while preserving tubing orientation and avoiding damage during disassembly and reassembly.

Before you begin

  • Record each tube position on the cap, including whether it is connected to the top or bottom location.
  • Make sure the module is placed on a stable bench surface.
  • Handle the communication cable and tubing carefully to avoid damage or kinking.
Required materials
  • Windex
  • Water
  • Acetone
Procedure
  1. Note the location of each tube on the cap and where each tube is connected so the unit can be reassembled correctly.
  2. Carefully lay the J457 optics module flat on the bench, making sure not to damage the communication cable or kink the tubing.
  3. Loosen each fitting on the cap by approximately one turn.
  4. Turn the cap 90 degrees counterclockwise until the holes are in a horizontal position.

  1. Clean the prism in the following order:
    • First with Windex
    • Then with water
    • Finally with acetone
  2. Reassemble the cap by reversing the steps above.

Cautions
  • Do not damage the communication cable while positioning the module.
  • Do not kink the tubing.
  • Make sure tubing locations are documented before disassembly to ensure proper reassembly.
Expected result

After cleaning and reassembly, the prism should be clean and the cap should be restored to its original position with all tubing reconnected correctly.
