Autopol instruments running Windows embedded Standard 7) may shows a blue screen.
The steps provided below apply to Autopol, any version, operating system: WES7 (Windows Embedded Standard 7).
It does NOT apply to instruments running Windows 10 IoT.
Problem:
The instrument shows a blue screen like the one below.
Cause: The reason for this is that the instrument was restarted before installing the software.
- Connect a USB keyboard and mouse to the instrument.
- Turn off the instrument and turn it on after 10 seconds.
- Hit F8 key continuously several times before Windows loads.
- A new DOS-like screen will come up with multiple options.
- Select ‘Safe mode with command prompt’ option.
- In the command prompt, type
“copy c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\autopol\ShellLauncher.exe”.
This is to make command prompt as shell launcher. - Turn off the instrument and turn it on after 10 seconds.
- Instrument will come up with command prompt window. (It is the shell launcher now)
- Type ‘explorer’ in command prompt and press enter key to launch ‘Windows Explorer’.
- Minimize Windows explorer.
- Close command prompt window.
- Maximize Windows explorer.
- Navigate to C:\Autopol folder and delete ‘ShellLauncher.exe’
- Install Autopol software from USB.
- Turn off the instrument and turn it on after 10 seconds.
