FAQ: 20-Year Support Guarantee
Rudolph is committed to providing long-term service and support for the analytical instrumentation it manufactures. Our goal is to help customers maximize instrument uptime, maintain compliance, and make informed lifecycle decisions based on operational needs, reliability expectations, and total cost of ownership.
What is Rudolph’s 20-Year Support Guarantee?
Rudolph is committed to supporting its instrumentation for a minimum of 20 years from the original shipment date.
What does the 20-Year Support Guarantee include?
Support may include:
- Technical support and service assistance
- Replacement parts and repair support
- Engineering assistance and troubleshooting
- Guidance on maintaining operational performance and compliance
Rudolph continues to support many systems well beyond 20 years whenever practical and technically possible.
Does Rudolph support instruments after 20 years?
Yes. Rudolph has many instruments in operation that are more than 20 years old, and we often continue supporting these systems beyond the formal support commitment.
As instruments age, however, certain electronic components and legacy parts may become increasingly difficult or costly to source due to supplier obsolescence and limited production availability.
What happens if replacement parts are no longer available?
If legacy components are no longer commercially available or repairs are no longer feasible, Rudolph provides favorable trade-in options on new or refurbished instruments.
What does the 20-Year Support Guarantee not cover?
Rudolph’s 20-Year Support Guarantee applies to Rudolph benchtop analytical instrumentation and associated service support. Portable and handheld instruments may have different lifecycle and support considerations depending on the product platform and component availability.
As electronic technologies evolve, newer components, processors, operating systems, interfaces, and assemblies may not always be compatible with the original instrument architecture or existing hardware platform. The support commitment also does not guarantee that older instruments can always be upgraded with the latest hardware or software related technologies.
What is Rudolph’s 8-Year Software Update Pledge?
Rudolph guarantees software and feature updates for 8 years from the original shipment date, subject to hardware capability and compatibility with evolving PC operating systems, interface standards, and regulatory requirements.
What happens after the 8-year software support period?
The ability to receive formal software enhancements or upgrades ends. Rudolph continues to provide reasonable software assistance, compatibility guidance, and service support whenever technically feasible.
Software upgrades end after 8 years because software enhancement often requires PC and embedded electronics to operate the new and enhanced features in a manner that reduces the chances of bugs caused by hardware (software incompatibility).
Does Rudolph designate instruments as “End of Life”?
Rudolph does not typically classify instruments using a formal “End of Life” designation while they remain supportable.
As instruments age, however, software compatibility, electronic component availability, and long-term serviceability can become more challenging and costly due to supplier obsolescence and evolving technology standards.
Even in these situations, many Rudolph instruments continue operating successfully for years with ongoing service, calibration, and technical support. Rudolph works closely with customers to help determine the most appropriate long-term support and lifecycle strategy for their laboratory operations.
Does preventative maintenance help extend instrument life?
Yes. Rudolph has found that instruments receiving regular preventative maintenance and calibration service typically experience lower downtime, improved long-term reliability, and extended operational life.
Routine preventative maintenance helps identify wear-related issues early and supports continued performance, compliance, and system stability throughout the instrument lifecycle and greatly enhances uptime and customer satisfaction.
