How to perform a Water Zero

Step-by-step instructions for performing an Air/Water Zero on a computer based refractometer.

  1. Clean and dry the prism to be certain there is no sample or any sort of residue on the prism,  alcohol or acetone works well.
  2. Select the Zero option shown directly below the green start option. If asked for a passcode, enter 123 then select Login.

  1. With the prism clean and dry, cover the prism and select Air, then select Continue. The instrument will perform the air calibration.
  2. Select OK
  3. Select Zero again and enter the passcode 123 if asked to do so
  4. Place a distilled water sample on the prism, enough to cover the complete glass
  5. Select Water
  6. Monitor the screen until the reading is stable then select Continue
  7. The instrument will begin the water calibration. Once completed, the previous and new value will be displayed.
  8. Select Save, then OK
  9. With the water still on the prism, select Start to measure the water sample and confirm that water passes.
